One of my favorite ways to try out new patterns or brush up on those common stitches has been through Michelle
Hunter’s Building Block Series of knitting books. Michelle is well known for her video tutorials on her website at KnitPurlHunter.com. And she uses them to accompany the book series to walk us through these knitting principles. So without further ado, I invite you all to improve your knitting skills at our weekly Knitters Building Block Day.
Each book focuses on building your skill level through knitting squares or blocks. Each block showcases a different knitting principle. At the end of each book, you have a collection of blocks to assemble into a beautiful throw blanket.
Michelle Hunter’s Building Block Series
Building Blocks
“Expand your knitterly repertoire with this master class from Michelle Hunter. You’ll build your skill set with each block you knit, and by the end, you’ll have a gorgeous lap throw. This Simpliworsted sampler will be a fantastic reminder of how far you’ve come.” – Skacel Publishing
Building in Color
“Building in Color is the second book from renowned knitter and teacher, Michelle Hunter. It is a carefully designed sequence of patterns that introduce knitters to color work in many of its various forms. This work follows the same format as Michelle’s earlier book, Building Blocks, and though it is the logical next step in a knitter’s educational arsenal, it can also be used as a stand-alone series of patterns that result in a beautiful finished blanket.” Skacel Publishing

Building in Lace
Building with Lace is the third book from renowned knitter and teacher, Michelle Hunter. Featuring HiKoo® Rylie (coming soon to the shop) for a perfect pairing of yarn and pattern, it is a carefully designed sequence of patterns that introduce knitters to lace work starting with the basics and working towards more difficult patterns. This work follows the same format as Michelle’s earlier books, Building Blocks and Building in Color, and has been a long awaited addition to this educational series.
Knitters Building Block Day – Join us for the FUN!
We meet each Thursday at 3pm at the The Twisted Purl to work on our blocks. There is no set project. Just bring which one you are working on to our Knitters Building Block Day. We can help each other through difficult spots or just enjoy each others company.
